BRISTOL — It has been a memorable season for St. Paul senior Audrey Tice as she and her team not only accomplished the highest heights in winning a state title, but she has also etched herself in the record books.
As the best player on the St. Paul Falcons this season, Tice led the Falcons to a 24-3 season, a back-to-back Naugatuck Valley League Championship and a Class M State Championship. Individually, she became just the fifth player to eclipse 1,000 points in school history, she was selected to the JCC and CHSCA All-Star games, she was named All-NVL first team and NVL Senior Player of the Year.
She was also recently named Class M All-State for the second-consecutive year.
Tice said all of the awards and achievements this season validated all the work she has put in over the last few years.
“I worked really hard all season long and I set certain goals for myself and it feels really good to accomplish them and see all my hard work pay off, especially during my senior year,” Tice said. “I was able to leave knowing I accomplished everything that I wanted so it feels really good knowing that and knowing that other people noticed it as well.”
She said this season in particular was one of the best seasons of basketball.
“Looking back I'm so grateful to have had the team that I did,” she said. “Every game we came focused and we said from the beginning we were going to win a state championship and a NVL Championship so to be able to do that really means a lot. The bond I was able to create this season with my team was like no other and it really felt like a family and made every game and practice so fun.”
Tice arrived at St. Paul as a sophomore and each season her role progressed. The first year Tice was a quiet player that was just able to score off the bench, but in her junior season she progressed to being a more vocal player and one of the team’s main scorers.
In her senior year, she progressed even more becoming a feisty perimeter defender.
“Overall, I'm so grateful to have made the decision on going to St. Paul,” Tice said. “It really made me love the game of basketball more than I already did. I was able to grow into a better player over my last three years and have an incredible coaching staff and team by my side the entire time.”
Next season, Tice will be continuing her basketball career at Eastern Connecticut State University. The Falcon will turn her blue and red colors in for a Warriors jersey.
However, before Tice could finish her remarkable season she made history once again by becoming the seventh father and daughter to play in the JCC All-Star game. Her father was also selected to play in the same All-Star game during his senior year.
“Being picked for the All-Star games also meant a lot to me. I was playing with some very good players so just to be able to do that and be a part of it was a really good feeling,” she said. “Both the games were fun and competitive and I'm glad I got to experience it, especially because my dad played in the same JCC School Boys and Girls Classic Game when he was a senior as well which was pretty cool to be the seventh father and daughter that had played and followed in his footsteps.”
