Lewellyn "Lou" R. Boucher

Lewellyn R. “Lou” Boucher, 94 of Plainville, beloved husband, devoted father, and cherished Pepére, passed away at his home on Wednesday February 7, 2024, surrounded by the love of his family.

Born on March 4, 1929, in St. Agatha, Maine, Lou was the oldest of twelve children to the late Frank and Anna (Bard) Boucher. Growing up and working amidst the picturesque landscapes, he embraced his deep love for the outdoors and nature from an early age.

After bravely serving his country in the United States Army, Lou embarked on a new chapter, moving to New Britain for work.  Here, he met the love of his life, Verna (Beaulieu) and shared an incredible bond of 68 years that exemplified unwavering dedication.  Together, they raised three cherished daughters and created a warm and loving home.  Anchored by his deep faith, he was a longtime member of Our Lady of Mercy Church, and a proud life member of the Knights of Columbus, actively engaging in community service and spreading kindness wherever he went.  An affiliate of the French Model Club in New Britain, Lou was a well-known bartender there in the late 50’s early 60’s.  From working in the shipping department of Stanley for nearly 40 years, or continuing to chop wood  and perform other laborious tasks around his yard into his 90’s, his strength, resilience and hard work ethics were ever present.   The great outdoors held a special place in Lou's heart, where he often sought tranquility and joy. Countless “rustic” camping trips with his family fostered unforgettable memories, and, whether he was hunting, fishing, or tending to his bountiful vegetable garden, Lou found solace in nature.  He will forever be remembered for his genuine kindness, soft-spoken nature, and gentle demeanor.

Lou is survived by his loving wife, Verna; his daughters, Linda Deegan, Susan Melanson and her husband Donald, and Lisa Metayer and her husband Robert.  He was the proud Pepere to Taylor Deegan (Elizabeth Austin), Spencer Deegan, Kevin Melanson, Steven Melanson, Stephanie Catania (Nicholas) and Kaleigh Canu (Mark).  He also leaves two brothers, four sisters, and countless nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by his best buddy, his four legged companion “Bowie” who he missed dearly; and four siblings.
