William Gainer Obituary

William H. Gainer, 83, of Southington, CT passed away peacefully surrounded by the love and comfort of his beautiful family on February 16, 2024 at THOCC- New Britain General Campus. Born in Milford, CT on June 26, 1940 son to the late Lloyd H. and Pearl (Buckingham) Gainer, William lived a fulfilling life marked by loyalty, resilience, and dedication.

After graduating from Milford High school, William enlisted in the U.S. Navy, where he served with honor and distinction. Following his honorable discharge, he embarked on a career in the forklift industry, starting from humble beginnings sweeping the floors and steadily rising through the ranks. With determination and hard work, he eventually reached the esteemed position of branch manager. His dedication and expertise left an impressive mark on the various companies he worked with over 40 years. It was during his years working in the forklift industry that William met his best friend and love of his life, Marilyn Williams through his niece Paula. Together they built a life on the foundation of understanding, loyalty, and love, sharing many cherished memories over the years, being happily married for nearly 55 years with a family of generations to come.

Beyond his professional endeavors, William had a deep appreciation for the simple joys in life. He found comfort and delight in solving jigsaw puzzles, often taking on intricate designs that challenged his mind. An avid New York Yankees fan, he cheered passionately for his favorite team and enjoyed discussing their triumphs and defeats with fellow enthusiasts.

Nature held a special place in William's heart. He reveled in the wonders of the natural world, reading books about nature, immersing himself in shows about wilderness survival, and enjoying time at the family’s cabin in Vermont or during vacations in Maine. He loved taking his grandsons fishing during the summer months. His love for nature extended to his own vegetable garden, where he cultivated various vegetables that he generously shared with family and friends.

Recognized for his ingenuity, William had an exceptional talent for repairing anything that crossed his path. His resourcefulness and handyman skills were admired by all who sought his help. Additionally, he dabbled in wood-working, skillfully crafting beautiful items that adorned the homes of his loved ones. Each piece he created was a testament to his meticulous craftsmanship and love for his family.

William will be deeply missed by his surviving spouse, Marilyn “Marty” Gainer; his sons, William L. Gainer and his wife, Katy, and Robert Gainer and his wife, Jennifer; his grandchildren, Matthew Gainer, Christopher Gainer, and Cameron Gainer; and several nieces, nephews and extended family members. In addition to his parents, William was predeceased by his siblings, Flora Kish, Lloyd D. Gainer, and Phyliss Horvath.
