Tribute

Richard E. Conopask, 84, of Burlington, beloved husband of Sandra (Judd) Conopask, passed away on Sunday, March 31, 2024 in the comfort of his home surrounded by his family. Richard was born in Bristol and was the son of the late Ellsworth and Elizabeth (Sinkiewicz) Conopask. He was educated in the Bristol school system and graduated with a bachelor’s degree from the University of Connecticut. Richard was employed by The Metropolitan District (MDC) as a civil engineer for 38 years retiring in 1998. Richard was an avid reader to say the least, reading and collecting over 3000 books! He also loved working in his garden and planting flowers, building models, keeping his cars immaculate, fishing with his family and vacationing in Ft Myers Beach where he would sail his hobie cat.  However, it was spending time with his family that he truly loved the best. When his sons were younger, Richard was very active in coaching their basketball teams, never missing a game. This also carried over into his grandchildren’s lives as well. Richard could also be known as a “master repairman” not only fixing things in his house but in the houses of anyone that needed something repaired. He was the Planning and Zoning Commissioner for the town of Burlington for over 8 years. Richard was a fan of the Boston Celtics, Atlanta Braves, the Boston Red Sox and the UConn Women’s basketball team. Besides his wife of 61 years, Sandra, Richard is survived by his three sons; Richard E. Conopask Jr of Burlington, James Conopask and his girlfriend Chichek McDonough of Fairfield and Joshua Conopask and his wife Mihaela of Avon. He was the proud grandfather of Quentin, Ella, Scottie, Eila, Liam, Hannah and Noah. He is also survived by his brother Leslie F. Conopask of Callabash, North Carolina and also by his niece Nicole and nephew Brian.
