Shinrin Yoku is a gentle, guided walk that supports well-being through sensory immersion in forests and other naturally healing environments. Shinrin-yoku is a term that means "taking in the forest atmosphere" or "forest bathing." It was developed in Japan during the 1980s and has become a cornerstone of preventive health care and healing in Japanese medicine.

Museum After Hours: Arranging and Sourcing Locally Grown Flowers

The New England Carousel Museum will be presents an exciting education series held on the first Thursday of each month in 2017 with presentations, exhibition openings and workshops. Each month will feature something different. Join scholars and experts as we learn about the art and history of carousels, the carvers, the artists, and your favorite carousels. Museum After Hours will be held from 6:30-7:30 PM with a wine and cheese reception taking place 6:00-6:30 PM. Admission to this series is included with general admission, and as always museum members are free.

Thursday, July 6: Arranging and Sourcing Locally Grown Flowers
Calling all flower lovers! Join us for a fun, floral evening featuring Haley Billipp of Eddy Farm in Newington. This presentation will explore the many beautiful varieties of American flowers and the local farms in Connecticut that produce them. The evening will end with a floral demonstration, showing attendees creative ways to showcase these local blooms.

This month we are making a Metal Punch Craft. Use our stencils to create a unique work of art that you can proudly display at home. Along with participating in our craft activity, visitors can tour the Museum and ride our carousel. This is a great way for families to spend the day together and make wonderful memories!

Admission to Family Sunday is $6.00 for adults and $5.00 for children, and includes the price of the craft.

Looking for a volunteer opportunity that will allow you to immerse yourself in art, culture, and fun while supporting a great non-profit institution? Then the New England Carousel Museum is the place for you. There will be a Volunteer Open House on Thursday, July 20th, from 6:00-7:00 PM. Attendees will enjoy a tour of the building while they snack on light refreshments, learn about our volunteer program, and mingle with museum staff and other volunteers.

If you have an appreciation for art, history and the preservation of the past, or are simply looking to join a great group of individuals please consider joining our roster of Museum volunteers. As a volunteer, you can set your schedule as you are available and willing to donate your time. Volunteers receive a free one year membership to the Museum, invitations to Museum events and enjoy a sense of community within our organization.
