Gary Melnysyn is an avid outdoor enthusiast and award-winning photographer. He has been interested in wildlife from a very young age. As a certified Master Naturalist, Master Wildlife Conservationist and National Park Ranger, he has led and narrated eco tours as well as taught adults and children alike about the coastal ecosystem of Florida, the wildlife of New England and the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem.
In his travels throughout North and Central America, he has concentrated on digitally documenting a variety of wildlife species. A self-taught photographer, Gary’s travels have taken him from the far reaches of Alaska, across the Canadian tundra, through the wilderness of Montana and Wyoming, southward to the shores of the Sea of Cortez, through the Great Divide and deep woods of Maine. His passion for photography combined with his wildlife background results in stunning wildlife images.

From witch trials to embezzlement to murder, Bristol has had its fair share of salacious moments. This special presentation of the Bristol 101 series, will cover some of the scandals that have dotted Bristol's history. Wine and cheese will be served as interpreters lead participants through a selection of scandals throughout the city's history.
This fundraising program will take place Saturday, January 18 at 7pm. Tickets are $15 or $10 for BHS members and will be available at the Society during building open hours (Wednesday 10-2 and Saturday 10-2) or at the door the evening of the program.

Offered by The Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) and taught by a state certified fishing instructor from DEEP, this class will discuss such topics as how to dress for the cold, how to tie a strong knot, what baits to use, what fish you will catch, how to drill a hole in the ice and use a tip-up and jig rod, ice safety and much more!
This class is designed for adults and families (ages 8 and up) and includes classroom instruction with demonstrations.
*If ice conditions are safe, students are invited to join us on the lake for an ice fishing trip to try their new skills! Ice fishing equipment will be available as well as bait. Valid fishing license is required for those 16 years and older to fish. Classroom session will run regardless of ice conditions. Please dress appropriately for fishing trip - rubber boots and lots of layers!

In this knot-tying class, join Kevin Estela as he guides students through the most effective ways to tie various knots used commonly in the great outdoors. Designed for all experience levels, this class will offer something for everyone with a combination of easy and difficult knots. Learn how to properly tie your shoes, lash a canoe to your roof, safely lift and lower objects, and much more. This is a hands-on seminar, and students will receive plenty of one-on-one instruction. Students are encouraged to take notes, photos, and short videos during the class to keep for future reference.
Kevin Estela, a bush craft and survival expert, is an avid world traveler and martial arts instructor. Kevin has worked with the History Channel and has been a featured guest on numerous broadcasts and podcasts. A sought-after speaker, he has written well over 100 articles for such publications as Survivor’s Edge, American Frontiersman and the RECOIL network. Kevin has recently authored a book entitled: 101 Skills You Need to Survive in the Woods.
