Joseph Ives and the Looking Glass Clock

Mary Jane Dapkus, former Museum curator and editor of the Timepiece
Journal, will share research from her award-winning book,
Joseph Ives and the Looking Glass Clock. This fascinating book is
filled with never-before-published data and relates the role that
this clock design played in a notorious scandal involving Lott
Newell, the Lewis family, and the headquarters of the Museum—the
1801 Miles Lewis house. Indeed, it turns out that the clock
contributed to the chaotic financial lives of Ives and his partners
long after the last of this style was produced.

Mary Jane will be available after the talk to sign her book and
guests will receive the special member rate for her book on Joseph Ives purchased
that evening.

The program fee is $5 for members and $7 for non-members. Admission
to the museum is included. Arrive early or stay late to take in the
temporary exhibit, Through the Looking Glass, in the Great Hall. This
exhibit delves into the story of Joseph Ives, his famous clock
design, and timepieces that help illustrate its important place in
Bristol’s clock making history.

Registration requested, but not required.
