Friends of the Bristol Library Annual Winter Used Book Sale

The Friends of the Bristol Public Library will hold its annual Winter Used Book Sale from Wednesday, March 1 to Sunday, March 5 in the meeting rooms in the lower level of the Bristol Library, 5 High Street, Bristol. The sale includes more than eight thousand gently used hardcover and softcover books, DVDs, audio books and CDs. Books are priced from $.25 to $2.00, and this year we have a large selection of specially priced books.

The sale opens with Preview Night (a $5.00 admission fee applies) on Wednesday, March 1 from 3:00 to 7:00PM. Regular sale hours (free admission) are Thursday, March 2 from 9:00AM to 7:00PM; Friday, March 3 from 9:00AM to 4:00PM; Saturday, March 4 from 9:00AM to 4:00 PM; Sunday, March 5 from 1:00 to 3:00PM.

Books will be sold at half-price all day Saturday, and the sale closes on Sunday with a fill-the-bag sale ($5.00 for a brown bag and $3.00 for a plastic bag) from 1:00 to 3:00PM. Specially priced books are not included in the half-price and bag sales, but will be available for purchase.

The Winter Used Book Sale is the Friends’ primary fundraising event, and the proceeds help provide the Bristol libraries with items and services not included in the annual budget, such as summer reading programs for adults, teens and children, museum passes, and Friends-sponsored special programs. All of the items in the sale were donated by community members, and the Friends appreciate the generosity that makes this fundraiser possible.

Emily Franke of CT recently published her first book, “The Ladybug Who Lived on a Four Leaf Clover”, and she will be reading her book in our Greenhouse! Emily wrote this inspiring story while grieving the loss of her grandmother, and she reminds us that signs are everywhere.

After the reading children will be able to make their own painted ladybug rock! Refreshments and cookies will be served as well. Sign up fee is per family! Books will be able for purchase and signed by the author.

Bristol Technical Education Center (TEC), part of the Connecticut Technical Education and Career System (CTECS), will hold an open house for prospective students on Thursday, March 30, 2023, between 5 and 7 p.m. at 431 Minor St., Bristol, CT. Bristol TEC is accepting applications for fall 2023 classes. Students entering grades 11 and 12 and adult learners are eligible to apply.

The open house event will provide prospective students with information about 7 trade areas offered by the technical school. Trades include Automotive Technology; Culinary Arts; Health Technology; Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning/Refrigeration; Mechatronics; Precision Machining; and Welding and Metal Fabrication.

Unique to the Bristol TEC experience is the production projects and hands-on career development experience students gain through partnerships with local companies through the Work-Based Learning program.
